Bio
I study psychology through the lens of my camera. I began studying psychology in the traditional way, earning both my B.S. and M.A. in the subject, but I’ve found that photography allows me to take my interest in people to new levels. Armed with the knowledge I’ve gained from my academic pursuits, I am able to use the images I take to see in a new way, from a new angle, and with new perspective on life and what it means to be human.
Every opportunity to photograph is an opportunity to learn. I have studied the psychology of group athleticism by working for Runner’s World and Dare2Tri. By winning the Focal Press “Picture Your City” contest, placing in the top 10 of The Local Tourist's second annual “100 Days of Chicago” contest, and winning four contests at the Chicago Photography Center's monthly Wine & Critiques, I have learned about the psychology of competition, winning, and defeat. Becoming a member of the PPA has taught me the importance of professional development. By having my work featured on chicagoist.com and wbez.org, and on display at the Chicago Photography Center, The Northdown Café and Taproom, Chicago’s Pizza, Lifestyle Physical Therapy & Balance Center, Café Selmarie, The Trickster Gallery, and the office of the 47th Ward Alderman, I’ve learned about the psychology of humility and success.
The most meaningful lessons have come from the people I’ve worked with –the Bride, the Groom, the Bar Mitzvah, the Mother of the Bride, the newly engaged…I learn the most from you and I hope to never stop learning!
